Have a happy, safe and healthy 2009. This reminds me of another new year – that of the Y2K scare of computers screwing up everything. I have a very funny story to tell re: Y2K. My daughter Kris got us all started stocking up on food, etc. As new year’s approached, and we were expecting the worse (like almost an Armageddon) our family chose to all be together up north with my son and his wife.
Everybody loaded up their pickups with all the canned goods/dry foods/other necessities we had stocked up and headed north. Jerry was hauling the camper loaded with food staples, guns and ammo, and a lot of silver to trade with. And several 5 gallon cans of gasoline to fire up whatever needed to be fired up. Kris and I were caravanning behind Jerry in the car. He kept hitting patches of ice and the trailer was careening back and forth. Also, we were thinking of all that gasoline in the back of the pickup. Kris said, “Mom, if the whole thing blows up, dodge the bullets and grab the silver as it comes down.”
We all made it up north – and everybody started unloading their pickups/campers etc into Wayne and Teri’s walk-out finished basement. The look on Teri’s face was a memory I shall never forget. Teri said, “I’m not saying a word. I’m not saying a word.”
Thank goodness, the Y2K scare just never happened.
However, we all did spend new year’s eve at Turtle Creek casino, hoping that, at midnight all the machines would spill their guts (and contents).
It didn’t happen. Darn!
